I also want to include useful info about guinea's on our group page. Please talk to me if you have suggestion or ideas for the group! Anything to help it run better! And spread the word to any of your cavy friends 
      As I've been looking through other people photo's of their guinea pigs, I've noticed a lot of people are a bit uneducated about the different breeds and varieties of cavies. Breeds: Classified by fur texture and type. Varieties: Classified by color and pattern. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ THE BREEDS: (These are the breeds recognized by ACBA (american cavy breeders association))  America: Americans are the most common, they have short hair that lays flat and has a smooth silky texture. American Satin: Exactly like the american but with sheen (it's hard to tell the satins apart from their normal coated breed, may need to ask a professional for help.) Teddy: Teddies have short hair that stands up straight. Their fur is rough and dense feeling. It doesn't feel smooth like most cavies, it has a very brittle texture. Teddy Satin: Exactly like the teddybut with sheen (it's hard to tell the satins apart from their normal coated breed, may need to ask a professional for help.) Abyssinian: This breed has short hair with many rosettes. Rosettes are points in the coat where hair radiates from that center point. They have lots of hair that sticks up straight like a Mohawk. Smooth soft texture. Abyssinian Satin: Exactly like the Abyssinian but with sheen (it's hard to tell the satins apart from their normal coated breed, may need to ask a professional for help.) Coronet: This is a long haired breed with fur sweeping out from the cheeks, sides, and rump. They have smooth silky fur. They have one rosette on the top of their head; a little circle with hair coming from it. Peruvian: A long haired breed with fur coming from the cheeks, sides, and rump. Smooth silky fur, and a part down the middle of their hair. Peruvian Satin: Exactly like the peruvian but with sheen (it's hard to tell the satins apart from their normal coated breed, may need to ask a professional for help.) Silkie: A long haired breed with fur coming from the cheeks, sides, and rump. They have a sweep of fur that comes from their head and extends over their back called a frontal. Smooth silky fur. Silkie Satin: Exactly like the silkie but with sheen (it's hard to tell the satins apart from their normal coated breed, may need to ask a professional for help.) Texel: Long haired breed distinguished by their curly ringlets. Fur a slightly rougher in texture. White Crested: A short haired breed whose fur lies flat and smooth.
